WAGE REVISION – INTENSIFYING ACTION PROGRAMME

The Charter of Demand for the salary revision due from 1st November 2012 was submitted to IBA on 30th October 2012. This October 30th we are completing 2 years with no sign of a fair & just revision. The rank and file across Banks is frustrated at the apathy of IBA & Government of India towards a fair settlement.

Our members, especially young officers are getting restless and wanted to channelize their anger and frustration through the platform of the Association.

In this background the Executive Committee of AIBOC met on 8th October 2014 at Delhi to deliberate the issue of salary revision besides other issues of importance. The meeting took stock of the various rounds of discussions so far took place with IBA, the rigid & unjustified stand of the IBA as well as the anger and resentment of the rank & file. After detailed deliberation it was decided that action programme declared by UFBU on 26.09.2014 should be strictly followed and also felt the need for further intensifying the agitation programme in order to strengthen the movement for clinching an early wage settlement. It was the dominant view that one day strike will not serve the purpose and strike dates should be fixed in such a way that the impact of the same is felt by IBA & Government and accordingly unanimously decided the following action programmes:

Date Action Programme

10.10.2014 Black Badge Wearing (All members must tie a black ribbon on the left arm)

Bank unions call for strike on November 12 over wage hike-Economic Times 15.10.2014

VADODARA: Bank employees have given a nationwide strike call on November 12 to press for  immediate resolution of wage hike issue, the talks on which remain stalled.

The United  Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella organisation comprising various
employee bodies, has given the strike call.

All-India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA)   General  Secretary C H Venkatchalam said they were forced to give a strike call  as Indian Banks Association (IBA) has rejected demand for higher wages and are sticking to their earlier 11 per cent hike citing poor
financials of the lenders.

IBA is the representative body of bank  managements. UFBU has  decided to take out rallies on October 30 in all the state capitals and other  centres across the country before observing the strike, Venkatchalam said.

The one-day stir will be followed by relay strikes on December 2 in the  South, on December 3 in the North the next day in the West and on December 5 in the Northeast, he said.

AIBEA,  with over 5 lakh members, is a major constituent of UFBU.

Venkatchalam  warned that if the IBA does not meet their demand, the unions will be forced to  take more drastic steps like an indefinite strike.

"We have  categorically informed IBA that we will be reasonable and flexible in our
approach provided the same is shown by the IBA on the issues raised by us. But
IBA is adamant and has refused to improve their offer and stuck to  11 per cent (salary) hike," he said.

The 27 public  sector banks have a combined employee strength of about 8 lakh.

  1. Comrades, please say no to one day strike as it is not going to be fruitful as we have seen earlier. Only thing the strike has to be for at least seven days. We all know that one day token strike does not serve the purpose of our long pending demands, as banking is not at all affected by such small strike.

  2. One day strike is useless rather the management scoffs at and enjoy.
