PUBLIC SERVANTS: HONOR DOESN'T
FILL THE STOMACH, THEY NEED ADEQUATE COMPENSATION..!
There is a news in circulation questioning the pay, perks,Pension etc of MPs/MLAs. Some writ is preferred in Supreme Court, as the impression is given. However, as the facts stand, we may find, People drawing Swatantrata Senani Pension and service Pension as well. Ex-servicemen get pension and at the same time in re-employment case, they get pension from banks or government if applicable. Dependent widows/widowers get family pension and then her/his own pension on retirement. Even compassionate ground appointees get two pensions. So double pension is a legal right. It is not alone lawmakers getting, rather entitled people in other areas are also getting it.
Lawmakers, bureaucrates, judiciary, public servants are getting pension or perks as per their appointment terms. Parliamentarians are law maker, SC can scrutinize the law made by Parliament and reject if found in contravention of Constitution. Honor is one think, but sustainance of life is another aspect, which need financial support. Honor Doesn't fill the stomach. And, if it does, all high profile executives, professionals in governance must not be paid.
The govt is created under Constitution for governance of country & serve public, for which public servants are required. Govt/public servants are not volunteers and they are not on charity job or on mission. Those who work, they must be suitably compensated. It is there at all level across the world. And, so in our country, nothing unusual or uncalled for.
Now canteen cost is fixed at no profit no loss basis. Other facilities like free travels, accommodation, etc. it's necessary to facilitate working.. All public servants are provided such facilities.
our service term is 60. MPs/MLAs term is 5 year. We superannuate at 60, they superannuate at 5 years. So superannuation benefits they get as we get on superannuation. There is no point of alarm at all.
According to me, Law makers must be paid well. Bureaucrates, judges etc are high paid class people. It is must to ensure them above the board and corruption free. At lower level, public servants are well paid, simply with a view to keep their integrity above board.
In our country MPs/MLAs or else govt administrative machineries, by public perception, are taken as corrupt lot, but all are not corrupt is also a fact. All are corrupt can't be given legalized terminology, so the sets of standard pay, perks, allowances etc are worked out and paid.
We shouldn't forget, its not Parliamentarians alone, we are in federal structure and have state governments as well, having independent powers.
Some ills we inherited from Congress, an outfit of 'malpractices in political spheres' of nation. Let us hope, some positive changes may come in public life in days to come.
