Torture Of Bank Officers

45-year-old bank official commits suicide-Times of India

KANPUR: A 45-year-old senior bank official allegedly committed suicide at his rented accommodation in Naveen nagar area under the limits of Kakadeo police station here on Sunday night.
Police said a four-page suicide note recovered from the spot alleged harassment from five members of the bank's staff. Sunil Kumar Gupta, staying as a tenant in the L Block Naveen Nagar house of Anil Kumar Arora, was found dead by his landlord on Monday morning. He had hanged himself with a rope in his bedroom.
The suicide came to light around 9 am when Gupta's wife tried to contact him from Jaipur on his mobile phone. After getting no response, she asked his landlord to visit the three storey house. The landlord was stunned to find Gupta hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom. He immediately apprised Kakadeo police about the incident following which cops along with forensic experts reached the spot and launched an investigation in this regard.
"Gupta was working as chief manager in the Ranjeet Nagar branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce. He was earlier posted in Jaipur in the same capacity with the bank, and was transferred to the city about two months ago. According to one of his staff members, he was a very jovial and loving person, but recently had complained of non-cooperation from some of his staff members. Questioning is on to know more about him," said a Kakadeo police official.
The investigating officials have sought call records of the deceased to find out whom he spoke to before his death. Only a couple of days later, he was about to leave for Thailand. He has been survived by his wife and two children.
Kakadeo police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further. Circle officer Chakrapani Tripathi said, "Going by the forensic experts' findings, Gupta committed suicide between noon and 2 am. The cops have recovered a suicide note, a diary and a pen. His family members have been informed about the incident."

  3. When GM(Vigilence), CMDs, EDs have become auctioned posts and when the promotion processes in Banks have become an eye wash, this type of incidences will continue to recur. However, the matter of physical manhandling - that too in work place - against staff by a responsible GM is a serious matter and needs immediate attention from the concerned officials in the Bank as well as the concerned ministry. Let the Ministry take the matter seriously and take necessary action against the top management of the Bank for remaining silent on the issue and also against the GM for acting in a manner "unbecoming of an officer".
