Bad News For Banks

The RBI's new norms require that on being notified by the customer, the bank shall credit the amount involved in the unauthorized electronic transaction to the customer's account within 10 working days of notification by the customer.



The norms also state that where the loss is due to negligence by a customer, such as where he has shared the payment credentials, the customer will bear the entire loss until he reports the unauthorized transaction to the bank. Any loss occurring after the reporting of the unauthorized transaction shall be borne by the bank.

Following are the fresh guidelines issued by Reserve Bank of India to protect the interest of customers in case of unauthorised electronic banking transactions. Through these guidelines, RBI has made an attempt to make bank more responsible and to ensure that customers are protected to maximum extent possible in case of digital fraud
